It’s just a matter of time before we start tampering with ourselves in the same ways. While I may be able to answer questions on non-fiction, my specialty is fiction. I prefer a more traditional (albeit a bit messier) way of thinking about the “types” – as subgenres, or groups of stories that share similar conventions and approaches that represent a narrow, but recognizable and popular or trendy, piece of the entire genre. Corporations increasing dominate global politics, and influence culture creating a situation ripe for subversion. It was a very ambitious project because of the richness of the real Spanish Renaissance, mixed with the steampunk and uchronia propositions. Once again, Devo fans sit up, stop slouching, and take note. In Exodus Chapter 3, God speaks to Moses from within a burning bush. It follows the similar storyline as William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" by following the lives of the group of students, who under the guise of "study trip" became transported on an isolated island where they receive ultimatum -only one surviving member of the group can return to the civilization. Bladerunner/Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep’s a great case study in how film can gulp a text down and then produce a vision of it that is intense and beautiful, but whose depth depends on the angle from which you’re viewing it.

Getting inspired for the new upcoming project I’m working on..can’t say too much yet, but can you guess? In particular, it seems to me legitimate to base a "hard" ScF story on an invented theory that explains some phenomenon which current theories (as of 1995) do not explain well, e.g. the solar neutrino deficit or the "missing" dark matter. They joined Net when their brain was digitized after death. Was PKD being jacked into the universal Matrix broadcast from RFA? Humans linked to machines are found in Pohl and Kornbluth's Wolfbane (1959) and Roger Zelazny's Creatures of Light and Darkness (1968).

There’s that weird omnipresence to technology, the scary-but-exciting idea of cyberspace existing somewhere other than inside the computer. Charlotte Perkins Gilman's 1915 novel Herland is a feminist classic, and depicts a remote, ideal society comprised entirely of women. Rick is almost an archetypal rebel from the cyberpunk universe, so it is humorous in the comic that the cyberpunk universe is a Rickless one. The "Drive" that sends the novel's protagonists into an alternate space (thus allowing for FTL travel) translates that space into a virtual reality landscape of the pilot's choice.
